The Septeto Santiaguero “La Meneadera” mixed together with the “Cimarròn” William Vivanco
La oportunidad se pintó sola. Coincidían en la misma ciudad que los vio crecer William Vivanco y el Septeto Santiaguero. Solo tenía que surgir la idea, proponerla y luego «atar los cables» para que en la noche siguiente compartieran el mismo escenario dos de los máximos exponentes contemporáneos del legado musical de Santiago de Cuba.
I was there, just 15 meters far from the “Cimarròn”. I commented the idea with the Maestro Fernando Dewar (Director of Septeto Santiaguero) and received the green light to realize the event. I just should choice the right moment to catch the Cimarròn.
En definitiva quien hacía de intermediario para lograr ese show musical decidió echar por tierra todo tipo de estrategia. Sin mucho preámbulo se presentó a William Vivanco, le ofreció la idea y la reacción no se hizo esperar.
-At what time it should be?
-10pm in La Pachanga, at the end of Enramada Street
-Lord! I finish singing at 9pm in Fondaciòn Caguayo (Vista Alegre neighborhood, the other side of the city...)
-I can arrange to let you start at 11pm
-Ok, so let’s do it!
-How could you arrange about the repertoire you’re singing?
-We keep in charge of this. I put the lyrics of one of their songs.

Y esa fue toda la «negociación». A las 11 de la noche del viernes 12 de julio el natural del barrio de El Tivolí entraba a La Pachanga y El Septeto tenía el ambiente en un punto climax con el hit La Meneadera.
Wow… expresó Vivanco de manera casi imperceptible para los oídos de quienes lo acompañaban cuando presenció lo repleta y alegre que estaba esa noche La Pachanga.
El Septeto hizo la parada de rigor, «manejando» muy bien los tiempos de las emociones de los bailadores y uno a uno de sus integrantes fue al camerino a prepararse para la segunda tanda, la que cruzaría el umbral de la madrugada. Vivanco fue al encuentro y se fundió en ocho abrazos con los miembros del Santiaguero.
Cantaremos Yo Son Gangá y el Pilón dijo alguien. Todos asintieron y a partir de ese instante quien les cuenta no entendió mucho. Comenzaron a improvisar el espectáculo que le regalarían al público en el lenguaje que solo entienden quienes han hecho o estudiado música. En 10 minutos ya estaban de acuerdo.
Gerardo Houdayer, the excellent showman of Septeto Santiaguero performances in La Pachanga, as was his wont, did the perfect presentation of William Vivanco, mentioned some successes of the guest and revealed the musical interaction between him and the Septeto.
What happened then, I prefer resuming it with two comments. The first, of the same Vivanco, when he saw all those people who enjoyed the incredible fusion of two different ways to make good music, he asked the audience to film that situation because he was afraid that in Havana nobody would believe him.
The second one was a comment who posted one of the Septeto Santiaguero follower, Tayset Fuentes Rojas, in its profile, who said: We were there until the end, it’s a privilege that everyone could enjoy, the Septeto Santiaguero is one of the best of his genre in Cuba. Vivanco seemed like the all life was singing with this band. All was spectacular.
