The “danger” of bongo

The current commitment of Carlos Danger Planas as percussionist of Septeto Santiaguero found its origins in one of the most authentic expressions of santiagueran culture: the conga. When he took part in the San Augustin band, infant category, obtained some prizes as interpreter of Quinto.

Before joining the staff of Septeto Santiaguero, Carlos participated in Septeto Oriente and the Conjunto Son de Buena Fe, experiences which helped him to strengthen his education in the traditional cuban music.

“Belonging to Septeto Santiaguero is a very important condition to me because I have always liked its way to make music. I have always followed them, including when their name was Melodias del Ayer. When I was a child I personally met a founder of the Septeto, so that fact also impressed me a lot.

“Pertenecer al Septeto Santiaguero es para mí una condición súper importante porque siempre me gustó su manera de hacer la música. Siempre los seguí, incluso, cuando todavía tenían por nombre Melodías del Ayer. Cuando era niño conocí muy bien a uno de los fundadores del Santiaguero y eso también me cautivó

The musical level of the Septeto and its attitude means a lot to my artistic career. I am proud of defending the heritage of our predecessors…Making the Son prevail and keep feeding it”. Son prevalezca y seguirlo cultivando”.

For Carlos Bongo (this is his nickname), studying music in his free time is something primordial, just ad sharing time with his family, especially his baby. He also loves pets and sports.
